India Approves $40 Billion Defence Aviation Upgrade | aviationbizz.com
India has approved a massive ₹3.6 lakh crore (approximately $40 billion) military modernization program aimed at strengthening its air and maritime defence capabilities.
The proposal includes the procurement of 114 Rafale fighter jets from Dassault Aviation to reinforce the fleet of the Indian Air Force. The additional aircraft are expected to significantly enhance India’s air combat strength, multi-role strike capability, and overall operational readiness.
The package also includes the acquisition of more Boeing P-8I Poseidon aircraft to boost the surveillance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities of the Indian Navy. The P-8I plays a vital role in monitoring the Indian Ocean Region and safeguarding critical maritime routes.
This marks one of the largest defence procurement decisions in India’s recent history. The proposal now moves to the next stage of negotiations and final approvals before contracts are formally signed.
The decision reflects India’s continued focus on modernizing its armed forces and strengthening strategic preparedness amid evolving regional security dynamics.
