Airbus Expands Belfast Facility to Support A220 Production Increase | aviationbizz.com
Airbus has begun construction on an extension to its wing manufacturing facility in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as part of a major investment aimed at increasing A220 aircraft production.
The 6,221-square-metre expansion will strengthen the facility’s manufacturing capabilities and introduce additional advanced composite production capacity. The upgraded site will include a third autoclave, specialised wing tooling and additional equipment to support Airbus’ production ramp-up.
The expansion is expected to help Airbus achieve its target of producing 13 A220 aircraft per month by 2028. The project will also support workforce development, including the recruitment and training of new apprentices.
Belfast is the exclusive global production site for A220 wings, making the facility a key part of Airbus’ strategy to expand and strengthen its commercial aircraft manufacturing network.
