Air India Expands Dreamliner Fleet with Another Boeing 787-9 | aviationbizz.com
Air India is continuing its fleet transformation with the addition of another Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, strengthening its growing widebody aircraft fleet.
The airline recently shared a glimpse of the aircraft fresh from Boeing’s facility in Everett, Washington, describing it as another step in its ongoing transformation programme. The aircraft, later identified as VT-AWD, has now arrived in Delhi, marking Air India’s fourth custom-made Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
The latest 787-9 is designed to support Air India’s operations on medium- and long-haul international routes. The aircraft features Air India’s updated cabin configuration and forms part of the airline’s broader strategy to modernise its fleet and improve the passenger experience.
Air India received its first line-fit Boeing 787-9 earlier this year. The 296-seat aircraft features Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins, with bespoke interiors installed directly at Boeing’s production facility.
Alongside introducing new aircraft, Air India is also upgrading its existing Boeing 787-8 fleet. The airline is progressively refurbishing 26 legacy Dreamliners with upgraded cabins and its new branding.
Air India expects nearly 60% of its widebody fleet to feature modern interiors by the end of 2026. The continued induction of Boeing 787-9 aircraft and refurbishment of existing widebody jets form a key part of the carrier’s long-term fleet modernisation and international growth strategy.
The latest Dreamliner addition highlights Air India’s continued efforts to build a more modern widebody fleet and strengthen its position in the international long-haul aviation market.
